KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

About twenty years of experience in geotechnical research, teaching and consulting. Main area of research is soil modelling including experimental work, development, testing and application of constitutive relationships and numerical tools for soils and for soil structure interaction problems. Development of computer programs for research and consulting has been an important task for several years. Many of the programs developed are now routinely applied by Norwegian consulting firms in geotechnical engineering. Other research topics has been pile driving, wellbore stability and formation mechanics including field subsidence for oil industry, integrated analysis of offshore structures, soil dynamics and soil stabilization by lime cement columns. Other activity has been conventional foundation and construction design in cooperation with geotecnical consultants

Teaches all basic courses in geotechnical engineering, Theoretical Soil Mechanics advanced course and doctoral and continuing education courses in Soil Dynamics and Soil Modelling.

Has been adviser and professor for several dr. students working in the field of Soil Modelling, Finite Elements, Slope Stability and Pile Driving. Current no. of dr.students: 4 (1999)

ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS:

Head of Department of Geotechnical Engineering, NTH from 1986 to 1989.

Chairman of the Dr.Ing. Committee at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, NTH from 1986 to 1990.

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Engineering Education at NTH from 1989 to 1995.

Administrative Council member of SEFI, European Society for Engineering Education from 1990 to 1996

Board member of SEFI from 1994 to 1996.
